Artist Submission Deadline Extended!

Artist Submission Deadline Extended!

  • Hey there, queer artists! Thanks for your interest in our benefit art show. We appreciate your patience as we get this event up and running with limited lead time during the holidays. We hope this show will be the first of many queer-run and queer-focused art events in Portland (and maybe elsewhere, too!).

Due to limitations with physical space at our venue, we may not be able to approve all artist submissions. To maximize the number of participants, we may also opt to limit the number of pieces each artist can submit to the show.

If any of the below are true, you may be eligible to participate in our online only virtual art exhibit:

    • You are unable to attend the show on 1/20/2025

    • Your work was not selected due to physical space constraints or submission volume

    • You want to display additional artwork

    • You do not live in the Portland, OR metro area but you identify somewhere under the queer umbrella and you’re an artist

  • To submit your artwork for consideration in the Queer Resistance Art Show, please follow these guidelines:

    1. Medium: We welcome a variety of artistic mediums, including but not limited to: painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, digital art, and mixed media.

    2. Theme: While the primary theme is queer resistance, we encourage artists to interpret this theme in their own unique way. Your artwork should reflect the experiences, struggles, and triumphs of the LGBTQ+ community.

    3. Submission: Please submit your artwork digitally in high-resolution JPEG or PNG format. Include a brief artist statement describing your inspiration and the message you hope to convey.

    4. Deadline: The deadline for submissions is December 31st at 11:59 pm.

    5. Notification: Artists will be notified of their acceptance status on January 2nd, 2025.

    Important Considerations

    • Framing and Hanging: If your artwork is selected for the show, you will be responsible for framing or wiring your piece so it may be hung on drywall or a grid panel.

    • Installation: Artists may be required to assist with the installation of their artwork on the day of the show (January 20th) during the artwork drop-off window.

    • Submission Fees: To ensure the event is inclusive and diverse, we are waiving submission fees for all artists.

    • Art Sales: All artwork must be available for sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting The Trans Continental Pipeline (TCP). Based on artist feedback, we recommend a 50/50 commission structure (50% to the artist, 50% to TCP). You may opt to donate 100% to TCP, but it is not required. If you have any questions or concerns about commissions, please reach out and we’d be happy to chat! We recognize that every situation, like art, is unique.

By submitting your artwork, you agree to these guidelines and grant the Queer Resistance Art Show permission to use images of your work for promotional purposes.

  • We’re finalizing details about the show and will send updates via email leading up to the big day. Keep in mind that the dates and times below are subject to change. We’ll do our best to nail everything down ASAP.

Submission Deadline: Extended! We encourage everyone to apply. We’ll let you know here if we’re out of space.

Artist Selection: Ongoing until the show

    Follow-Up Survey (Art Dimensions): January 18th, 2025

  • We may be a little too ambitious for our first show, but this event is too important to limit to only a small handful of talented queer artists.

Since we can’t make more physical space at our venue, we’re embarking on a daring adventure to also bring you an online virtual art experience. It’s pretty much what it sounds like - an online environment that looks like a real gallery space, featuring artwork (and sculptures!) by dozens of queer artists from around the United States.

During the application process, you can elect to participate in the virtual exhibit or opt out. We’ll follow up with more information as we get closer to the event!

Artist Submission

Not an artist, but want to get involved? Ally looking to support the cause? Excellent! We need all the help we can get. We’re looking for volunteers for various roles leading up to and during the show. If you have a unique skill set or other idea, let us know!

Here are some of the things we could use help with:

  • Distributing flyers and posters in Portland

  • Day-of volunteers for setup and hanging art

  • Evening-of volunteers for various roles during the show

  • PR/media coverage to increase awareness

We need volunteers! It truly takes a village.
